Cold Wax Painting
Cold Wax Painting is when you mix oil paintings with a medium of natural beeswax, Gamsol and
a small amount of alkyd resin. The term “cold” in Cold Wax Medium and Cold Wax Painting
refers to the fact that heat is not required for working with this medium.
Cold Wax Painting utilizes experimental approaches, including the use of brayers, stencils, and
textural elements such as bubble wrap or wire screens. The possibilities are endless.
Cold Wax Paintings need to be done on a rigid support such as wood or aluminum panels.
Statement about my Cold Wax Paintings
"When I create with Cold Wax Medium (with my oil paints) the layers are put on, scraped off,
scratched through and layered over again. There are transparent layers that give visual depth
into the creation of the painting.
It is the layers of life that intrigue me and this medium helps me move beyond conscious
abstract ideas into a more intuitive and deeper forms of creativity."

Artist Statement
Art opens images of the world which
have been seen by the eyes of
the artists soul...
creating a new world to love.
The layers of life
are what intrigue me...
how thoughts and actions
form our being and
shape who we are.

What seems at first glance to be abstract
when viewed again
are many layers
telling a story.

My paintings are reflections of life,
each filled with layers
of color and texture
which reveal
ones essence.
