Mitch Wyman

Acrylic on Canvas and Panel

Mary's Comment:

"Mitch is a natural, an artist at heart and at the core of who he is.  When his work catches a collector they rarely  settle for just one.  They come back again and again.  There is something about his work that I can't put words to, although I do know it is definitely organic, earthy and addictive.  It somehow keeps calling.  I saw Mitch painting one day and he is like a man possessed.  Working fast and furiously, he knows what he intends to do and when he is finished.  He absolutely loves the work and I love the originality and the passion that he communicates through his paintings.  Come in to see what I mean."

When Mary Martin, gallery owner, met Mitch Wyman, it was while eating his excellent cuisine at a local historical pub called The Blind Tiger.  With The Blind Tiger being just across Broad Street, Mitch wandered into the gallery for over six years during breaks from cooking to admire the work of Mary's artists.  Mary comments that "Mitch really saw the art, often speaking in an astute and detailed way of certain artists and why he loved their work.  In fact Mitch became so good that if the sales staff was tied up with customers, he could easily fill in with other customers.  He idolized Jean-Claude Gaugy, Fletcher Crossman, and Barbara McCann.

Mary suggested that Mitch take painting lessons with Fletcher Crossman who is legendary in the area. Mitch emerged from Fletch's influence determined to paint.  And paint he did.  He felt he had to start small and brought to the gallery small paintings of pears with a variety of techniques for Mary to see and critique.  They kept selling before Mitch could pick them up again.

Finally, Mitch was ready for a show.  Here it is.  Mitch Wyman's first one man show on September 3, 2010 at Mary Martin Gallery ar 39 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401  from 5-8pm.
